Is video more profitable than photography?

An interview with Dan Chung on Digital Photography Review.

Photojournalism as a profession has taken a bit of a nosedive in recent years. Although I’ve been fortunate enough to be in continuous employment, I’m not immune to the longer-term trend, which is pretty desperate if you’re talking about make a living. I took a strategic decision to get more into video and it’s been reasonably successful.

Being a photographer in Pakistan is tough, but not for the reasons I was warned about. I kept up on the news, obsessed over old stories about Daniel Pearl and new stories about kidnappings and violence, talked to other photographers who have worked there, and tried to gather all the information I could before my trip.

Luc Delahaye and his uncomfortable war photography

Sean O'Hagan of The Guardian UK discusses the uncomfortable and disconnected nature of Luc Delahaye's photography now on exhibit at the Tate Modern.

Delahaye, like Polidori, is not just questioning the role of reportage in an increasingly over-mediated world, but asking the thorny question: what happens to images of human suffering when they are taken out of magazines and hung on the walls of chic downtown galleries?
