Under the Arctic Ice

I love photo essays. I am a visual learner and can gather information a great deal quicker through a photograph than text. But, what I enjoy mostly about a photo essay is it brings the viewer into a place they may never get to visit in their lifetime. Sure, it's not as good as the real thing, but it's better than never knowing it existed in the first place.

First off, I love the tagline on the Click! website.

Photography Changes Everything.

It sure does.

Click! is part of the Smithsonian Photography Initiative and is an awesome resource for anyone interested in reading essays about today's photography. With over 30 different contributors this site has a wide realm of topics, opinions, and voices.

Check out what one of my favorite artists, John Baldessari, has to say about how photography changes what artists do.

A tidbit:

The way I sometimes block out parts of some pictures, for example, is part of a flirtatious game I play with the viewer. If I show you everything, it’s going to be ho-hum. If I make a picture a guessing game, I might capture your attention for a little bit longer.
